Jules Verne was a French novelist, playwright and poet, and is known as the ?Father of Science Fiction?. Verne?s dream was to writes novels which would combine fictional adventure with scientific fact. In 1863, he published the first of his Voyages Extraordinaires (?Extraordinary Voyages?), the novel, Five Weeks in a Balloon. It became an instant bestseller, leading Verne to write many more novels in this series. The most popular ones are Around the World in Eighty Days, Journey to the Centre of the Earth and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
